Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has confronted myriad
challenges in her career as the Slayer - falling for a vampire,
losing her mother, being killed and resurrected - but now she,
the Scooby Gang and the residents of Sunnydale face a whole new
dastardly threat: They are impelled to sing their most intimate
feelings. (Yes, you read that right, sing.) Series creator Joss
Whedon wrote, directed and composed the songs for this gleefully
twisted musical episode in which cast members provide their own
vocals and dance steps. And guess what? They pull it off with
panache! Highlights include a giddy duet between Xander and Anya
(Nicholas Brendon, Emma Caulfield) in which each reveal their pet
peeves about the other ("She eats these skeezy cheeses that I can't
describe," gripes Xander). Fun as the numbers are, alas, they
eventually cause Sunnydale's unwitting performers to burst into
flames. Can Buffy and co. stop the music in time to beat the heat?
Not if the demon Sweet (Hinton Battle) has his way.
